Lead Quality Inspector

Job Summary

The Lead Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that products, materials, and services provided meet the requirements established by customers, procedures, and specifications.

Essential Technical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use common measurement tools, such as micrometers, calipers, and height gages

  • Use advanced measurement tools, such as coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and optical comparators.

  • Ability to perform First Article Inspections (FAI) to the requirements of AS9102

  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings, customer specifications, raw material/special processing certifications and ensure all engineering/purchase order requirements are met

  • Uses statistical sampling plans, such ASQ-ANSIZ1.4 or similar

  • Understands ISO9001/AS9100 Rev D and how it applies to a Quality Control position

  • Matches colors, textures and appearances to established standards

  • Verifies the proper functionality of final assemblies

  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensions & Tolerances

  • Understanding of calibration and calibration systems

  • Provides continuous development training to all QC inspectors

  • Provides guidance and direction to all QC Inspectors

  • Works with engineering on design concerns and out of tolerance conditions

Essential General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Basic computer skills, such as the ability to navigate Windows operating systems and manufacturing ERP software

  • Ability to travel between Harper Facilities when required without prior notice

  • Coordinates the Quality Department and inspectors to ensure successful and effective completion of required internal procedures and standards

  • Ability to work as a team, both within and outside of the department

  • Must be able to follow instructions (Written and Verbal) and work independently with minimal supervision

  • Sit for extended periods of time, full dexterity to reach, push, and pull complex assemblies

  • Regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Frequently required to use hands to handle, feel objects, tools, or controls and to climb or balance

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet specified deadlines (we had something like this in another job req. that got this point across pretty well)

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • 5 years minimum of directly related experience, machine shop experience preferred

  • 1 year minimum of lead experience required

  • CMM programming experience preferred
